The Newark Valley Fire Department Auxiliary is a separate organization from the Newark Valley Fire Department. The auxiliary supports the fire department by providing food and beverages on extended time incidents, helping with fund raising events, open house and other situations.

The Fire District is responsible for setting the annual fire district budget and controlling the tax payer money collected by the Town. The Commissioners are elected to a 5 year term, the Treasurer is elected to a 3 year term. Each year the district board selects one of their Commissioners as the Chairman. The current chairman is Commissioner Robert Haney.
